John Aldridge XI v Bray Fire Fighters XI
The fire fighters of Bray have announced that they will be hosting a commemorative Legends exhibition match featuring a John Aldridge Legends XI team who will come up against a Bray Fire Fighters side on Sunday 26th September at Carlisle Grounds, Bray, KO 2pm.
John Aldridge has put together a legends side of footballing greats, including European Cup winners Alan Kennedy & Phil Neal, Manchester United Legend Andy Cole, Lee Sharpe and many more. With players from Liverpool, Celtic, Manchester United and Irish internationals this a game for every football fan will enjoy! Fans can also expect to see a number of well known celebrities on the day including The High Kings singer, Darren Holden, he said, “I am delighted to be taking part in the charity soccer game on September 26th in aid of two very worthy causes. I have been very close to Irish Autism Action over the last year and have met people from all over affected by it, not least from within my own family.” Watch out for other special guests on the day including stars from the world of GAA, also not forgetting a big thank you to Bray Wanderers for donating the use of Carlisle Grounds for the day, one of the best pitches in the country!
The match comes on the 3rd anniversary of the Bray fire tragedy, in memory of Sub Officer Brian Murray and Fire Fighter Mark O Shaughnessy who died on 26th September 2007. The officers son, Brian Murray commented, “The respect and dignity the community has showed us and the service after the fire tragedy was overwhelming. We wanted to do something to show our appreciation back to the people by organising this fundraising match and donating the proceeds to these two admirable charities, Irish Autism Action and the Laura Lynn Children’s Hospice Foundation.
Irish Autism Action commented, “Even in these hard times we are deeply touched by peoples generosity. We would like to thank the Bray fire fighters for their support and the people of Bray for supporting the fire service.” The Laura Lynn Children’s Hospice Foundation added, “We are delighted that the fire fighters of Bray and John Aldridge legends XI are working to make a difference in the Sunshine Home and supporting Ireland’s first children’s hospice.”
John Aldridge commented, “Myself and the rest of the lads on the team are really happy to be involved in this event, the work both Irish Autism Action and the Laura Lynn Children’s Hospice Foundation does is amazing and these charities need our support. We hope that the fans will agree and come out on 26th September and support us in raising some money on the day!”
Legends XI said, “Not only is this match a fundraising day for Irish Autism Action and the Laura Lynn Children’s Hospice Foundation, but it will be a great day out for any fan of the game! The games we organise are friendly’s but we always find that the competitive streak comes out in the players as soon as they step foot on the pitch. The Legends stars may be a bit older but they haven’t lost their drive for winning or skill with the ball, it’s just remarkable to watch. Any fan would enjoy a day like this! We are delighted to be involved with the Bray Fire Fighters and hope it will be a really successful event for them and the charities they are fundraising for!”
