2011 Best Year Ever for Legends XI!

Legends XI helped to raise an astounding figure of over £150K for local charities and clubs across Ireland in 2011!

Here are just a few of our highlights of 2011:

The 2011 season began in Dublin, where Darndale FC invited the John Aldridge Legends to their club on 3rd April at Morton Stadium.  It was a great day had by all, the weather was fantastic, the team at Angelic Events kept spectators entertained and the Gala Dinner in the Hilton Hotel was a great success. The event in Darndale raised in the region of €60k for their club and their chosen charity.

Mullingar hosted the John Aldridge Legends on 14th May in a charity fundraiser for Irish Autism Action and T.E.A.M where Tottenham Hotspurs stars Ricky Villa and Ossie Ardiles made a special appearance. After the game the Greville Arms hosted an Evening with the Sports Stars featuring Ricky & Ossie, John Aldridge & Jason McAteer.

In July Legends XI participated in the first ever Spoirtfest event held in Co Cork. Legends All Stars competed against a local Ballincollig XI side amongst a host of other sporting events taking place in the town over the weekend. The money raised from the events went towards the participating Clubs in the town.  As well as the Legends event the weekend included, tournaments in Gaelic Games, Tag Rugby and Football, exhibition matches in sports like American Football, Aussie Rules, Lacrosse, Volleyball and Ultimate Frisbee. At night, locals were treated to music from Bipolar Empire, Jerry Fish and the Mudbug Club, and Aslan! A great weekend had by all and we hope to participate again in Spoirtfest 2012.

The season finished with the annual Belfast Cup 2011, this year’s event seen a host of stars from the land of soap and football descend on the city. Proudly supported by Belfast City Council, Abbey Insurance, Hunky Dorys, Unite the Union and hosted by Belfast’s very own Shankill United FC, the weekend of 8-9th October was certainly one to remember! The Charity Gala Dinner, held in the Ulster Hall was hosted by May McFettridge and Jackie Fullerton, it was a great night for all who attended and a fantastic success for Heartbeat NI. The tournament was held the following day and locals were treated to an exciting day of football featuring well known Soap Star faces; from Coronation Streets Jason Grimshaw, to Eastenders Robbie Fowler. The Legends All Stars team lead throughout the tournament, taking the title of winners of the Belfast Cup 2011!

These are just a few of the events Legends XI were involved in this year but we would like to thank every club we visited this year for their hard work in helping us raise such an overwhelming total of over £150K for clubs and charities across Ireland!
