Liverpool Legends v Crusaders

Liverpool Legends will return once again to Seaview to play Crusaders Legends on Friday 23^rd April, KO 7.45pm. A night for both Liverpool and Crusaders fans, this match for many will bring back fond memories of the famous European Champions Cup games from the 70’s.

Players including the great Alan Kennedy, Phil Neal, Rob Jones, Gary Gillespie and Mark Walters are just some of the names you can expect to see representing the Liverpool Legends. Crusaders Legends, Stephen Baxter, Glen Dunlop, Kevin McKeown, Gavin Arthur, Steven Livingstone, Michael Cash, Aaron Callaghan, Robbie Lawlor, will come up against the Liverpool heavy weights among others on the night.

Many will remember the history between the two teams; their first encounter was on Tuesday 14^th September 1976  at Anfield in a first round first leg of the European Champions Cup with Liverpool winning 2-0 after a heroic display from the Irish League part timers this was Liverpool’s fourth attempt at winning the European Cup, they went on to win the trophy in 1977. The new Grandstand at Seaview was officially opened on Monday 24^th August 1981 with the visit of Liverpool FC and Chairman John W Smith J.P, who officially opened the spanking new facility and played before a packed house at Seaview.

Crusaders Chairman Stephen Bell said: “We are really looking forward to having the Liverpool Legends at Seaview in April, and renewing acquaintances with some of our own Legends. It should really be quite a nostalgic night seeing a Liverpool side back at Seaview, who can ever forget their previous two visits to Seaview in 1976 and 1981?”

Liverpool Legend Alan Kennedy said: “I always remember playing Crusaders as the year after we won the European Cup. I will never forget the atmosphere there was at Seaview, the stands were always full, I hope that we will get the same welcome all these years on and the fans still come out to support us!”
