The Liverpool Legends arrived into a sunny Belfast on Friday afternoon. As the Legends travelled to the match the crowds were filling into the Crusaders ground, as the Liverpool Legends were greeted by VIP guests in the Crusaders club house, the excitement was building as the time came closer to see the Liverpool Legends walk out onto the Crusaders pitch.

Liverpool made a promising start to the match with Don Hutchinson scoring the first goal. Mark Walters scored the second goal for the Liverpool side, bringing the score to 2-0 at half time! Glen Hunter scored a penalty for Crusaders in the second half, the team manager Liam Beckett claimed it was his half time team talk by himself and his assistant manager Jackie Fullerton that brought the Belfast side back into line- however rumours soon came from the dressing room that the players couldn’t understand a word they were saying! But unable to equalise the final score was 2-1 to the Liverpool Legends, leaving the Liverpool fans walking away from Seaview once again with that winning feeling.

Alan Kennedy commented, “It was great game at Seaview, it was brilliant to get back and see the ground after all these years and meet some familiar faces. We had a great night back in the clubhouse after the match, there were a few drinks taken and a few jokes told, it was a fantastic night had by all. Thanks to Crusaders for being such great hosts!”

Norman Coleman commented, “This being the first kind of venture taken by Crusaders in this line of the game, it definitely proved to be a worthwhile exercise, the match on Friday night was an outstanding success!”

Legends XI would like to take this opportunity to thank Norman Coleman, Crusaders FC and their staff for all their hard work in the past few months that made Friday 23rd April such a great success. We hope to see you next year!!
