Liverpool Legends return to Homepark to play the Plymouth Legends on Monday 3rd May 2010, KO 3pm.

Liverpool Legends XI likely to appear will be ex-England full-back Phil Neal, European Cup goal hero Alan ‘Barney Rubble’ Kennedy and Danish playmaker Jan Molby. Other stars pencilled in to play for the Reds’ include former keeper Bob Boulder, FA Cup final scorer Michael Thomas, Scottish internationals Gary Gillespie, John Wark and Don Hutchison, title winning midfielder Nigel Spackman, flying winger Mark Walters, Irish international defender Phil Babb and current Sky TV pundit, and ex- England forward, Paul Walsh. The team is managed by another Sky pundit, former club captain and England star, Phil Thompson.

An Argyle spokesman said the clash, scheduled for the May Day bank holiday Monday, is part of an activity-filled Family Fun Day at Home Park, which will bring the football season to a ’stunning conclusion’. “The Pilgrims are inviting families down the ‘Theatre of Greens’ for a day crammed full with fun, football and entertainment,” he said. The areas surrounding Home Park will be converted into a ‘mini theme park’, with activities for families including a bouncy castle, children’s fun-run, surfing machine and fairground attractions.

“On the pitch, the Green Army will be treated to the strike- partnership of their dreams, when current head coach Paul Mariner takes his place alongside the great Tommy Tynan.” Tynan and Mariner were arguably the club’s greatest goalscorers of the modern era. But while they were active at the same time, their Pilgrims’ careers were separated by seven years. Between them they scored 187 goals for Argyle, each playing in a team winning promotion from the third tier, Mariner in 1975 and Tynan in 1986.

Tynan, who was born in Liverpool and began his career with the Reds under the legendary Bill Shankly, said: “I’m looking forward to playing alongside Paul Mariner . “Our names have come up when Argyle fans have been asked to come up with their best-ever Argyle XI. “And it’s against a Liverpool team who will include a few players I’ll know from my playing days. It sounds like it’s going to be good fun.”

After the game, there will be an exclusive meal for supporters with guest speakers from both sides in the Pyramid Suite.
